Swordsmen are soldiers of the regular army and together with pikemen and archers they form the backbone of the infantry of Men. Like all soldiers swordsmen are trained in castles every turn. They can wear heavy armour, but that requires additional time for more extensive practice thus decreasing the amount of produced units.

Sword is a traditional weapon of war widely spread among different races because of its universality. Swords used by Men are double-edged and straight bladed. It has an excellent slashing damage (as opposed to thrusting) and as such is very good for breaking enemy's armour. One of its advantages is the capability to parry slashing attacks. A duel between swordsmen will usually take longer than a fierce fight on spears. Sword doesn't have serious drawbacks and is great or at least good enough in most of the cases. That is why training a swordman is almost always a safe choice especially when you are attacking most of the time.

Veteran swordsmen tend to strike more often than rookies and better parry as well.
