Lancer cavalry
Only the race of Men has managed to tame horses and master the production of cavalry units. Cavalry is at the top of the production hierarchy - it is more expensive to produce and has higher upkeep rate. In addition to that its production is limited by the number of horses available in the stables. In return it is much faster (especially light cavalry) and tougher than infantry.

Cavalry can be of three types: heavy or light cavalry (armed with lances) and mounted archers. Heavy cavalry is the main striking force and light one plays mostly supportive role. Cavalry lance is different from infantry spear - it can't be broken and inflicts more damage. One of the greatest skills that cavalry has is the trample skill. Not only cavalry covers great distances, but it also moves fast in the battle. If there is enough range between cavalry and its target, it may charge thus enabling the trample skill. Naturally heavy cavalry has better trample chance than the light one.

When on non open terrain such as forests, mountains or structures, cavalry has to dismount. When dismounted cavalry units take secondary weapons (swords) thus loosing lance specific experience and bonuses. Also they loose energy and hit point bonuses, not to mention the trample skill. However cavalry armies when in offense can almost always force enemy to accept a battle in an open area as opponent can not afford to let such a deadly force to infiltrate deep into his territory. Heavy cavalry armies can crush almost any other stack, even heavy dwarf infantry backed by crossbowmen.
