Knight (Baron)
Knights are the nobility of the race of Men.

They are almost as strong as heroes - definitely the most powerful units of Men that comes at regular basis. Similar to heroes they have a very rich skillset with some of the skills actually matching. Carefully study the skills available as each knight may differ. As compared to the heroes knights always come for free, can not search ruins, tame pegasus and do not increase morale. Instead being the landlords, knights can bring value just staying in their homelands by recruiting volunteers and raising militia in villages. Baron knights emerge with a number of companions and even more of them will join with time if baron knight stays in his homeland. Another difference with heroes is that while it is a rare case when two heroes can be gathered in one army, knights are much more plentiful and can form very strong stacks when joined. Note however that knights do not tolerate mercenaries and do not stack with them.

As knights always come mounted, they have all the bonuses that cavalry has (which are lost when they dismount in non open terrain such as forests, mountains or structures) except that they do not switch weapon as cavalry does and remain as powerful in close combat. Knights are protected with heaviest armour available to the Men. However their weakness is vulnerability to ranged attacks as they wield two-handed swords and therefore do not carry shields (until become veterans). Units that pose most danger to the knights are crossbowmen as their bolts penetrate armour with relative ease. Another useful skill is the ability to release hawks which are superb scouts.

Note that knight errants are completely different story. They carry shields which makes them very powerful on battlefield. However they do not bring additional troops in their homeland and can not train militia, so they are better of in battle.
